Robert Burns Day

January 25, 2020

Today is Robert Burns Day, a day to remember one of the most influential young poets/writers of the Enlightenment. Although not a national holiday, Burns Day/Night is celebrated throughout Scotland and the Scots diaspora on the anniversary of Robert Burns birth on January 25, 1759. Although he only lived a short life, dying as the tender age of 37, Robert Burns had a tremendous impact of the development of liberalism and socialism in the English-speaking world. As an early Romantic, Burns is best known for as the national poet of Scotland. However, his political and civil commentaries were equally, if not more, impactful than his verse.

So tonight, raise a toast to Robert Burns and his role in the birth of the modern world.
